Amarna, the capital of the mysterious Pharaoh Akhenaten, is considered today as a special world heritage site: the cradle of mankind’s first monotheistic religion. But what is true and what is legend about this story? Is Akhenaten rightly regarded as the first monotheist before great founders of religions, Moses, Christ and Mohammed? Many Egyptologists have been assuming this since the end of the 19th century. Today, the thesis has even become part of the cultural mainstream.
